"My inspiration as an artist is to create beauty. I believe that splendor exists all around us. I am moved by the visions in my mind that I see in a flash of inspiration. It is an ongoing quest for me to put these images on canvas to share with others.
My teachers have been the masters of today, as well as the masters of the past. My training has not been formal, but I believe that in a quest for excellence, the necessary teachers are found; everything is available to the student who desires knowledge.
Recent travels have taken me to incredible museums in various corners of the world – Russia, Prague, Italy, Budapest, France, and London. The quiet and profound brushstrokes of the greatest masters taught me more than I can express in words."
-Georgeana Ireland, Artist
Artist Georgeana Ireland’s style could be classified as Romantic Abstract Expressionism. She paints furiously to passionate orchestra rock and has been clocked at a brushstroke speed of 238 strokes per minute. Her influences have been the European and American painters of the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries, including Turner, Whistler, and Redon, and the styles of Romanticism, Symbolism, and the Hudson River School.
Georgeana grew up in a rural town in Oregon. Her artistic talent was discovered at an early age, and her grandmother, also an artist, encouraged her. Georgeana’s art was her passion and by the time she was 16 years old, she was taking private lessons, painting more than three hours a day and selling her work.
Her first national debut was in Carmel, California, at the age of 21. She continued exhibiting in galleries and museums across the U.S. and has received numerous awards for her paintings. Her murals can be found in the historic Multnomah Hotel and the Willamette building, both in Portland, OR; the Sunriver Lodge and Resort in Sunriver, OR; and numerous private collections in Oregon, Washington, and California.
An autodidact, Georgeana honed her artistic skills with various classes under master artists, extensive research, and sheer discipline. Recent travels to art museums in Russia, Italy, France, Prague, Vienna, and London have influenced her work immensely. Seeing the original brushstrokes of the masters up close has had a profound influence on her new work.
Georgeana moved to California in 2002, and maintains an active exhibition schedule with galleries, museums, and private commissions.
“Somehow the unexplained is captured in the paint; the mystery of life is embraced...It is spiritually revitalizing. One returns to it, seeing the essence of the familiar…Georgeana Ireland captures sheer emotion, unconnected to representation, the way Mozart makes me feel. Her painting is music for the eyes.”
