Alexander Popoff ....Artist Profile |
|
Alexander Popoff, son of a renowned Soviet painter, was born in Postdam, East Germany on May 11, 1959 where his father was working for the Soviet Armed Forces. Like Father, Alexander started painting at an early age, traveling to remote areas in Russia and the serenity and beauty of the countryside on canvas. At the age of eighteen he was admitted to the Moscow Institute and graduated with honors. Popoff is considered a very important Russian painter and was often a participant in numerous official exhibits in Moscow, where his works of art were acquired by European art dealers and collectors. Popoff manifests a broad artistic range that encompasses romantic and nostalgic scenes of the past, "life the way it used to be." Popoff is also an admirer of the French Impressionist Edward Cortes and follows his style and feelings when he paints. In addition, Popoff loves to revisit the same scene... waterfalls, the countryside, and the streets of Russia. Returning to these images gives him a sense of peace and serenity. In the words of Popoff, "The most important thing in art is the artist's attitude, and what he paints should not only please the artist but the public as well."
